JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Sr. Draftsperson- Mechanical.

Reporting to the Manager Design Engineering, this position is responsible for preparing and revising civil drawings, sketches, and operational flowsheets to support the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and modification of site improvements and civil systems within a nuclear generating station using computer-aided drafting systems (CADS) technology. This includes producing detailed and study drawings for reinforced concrete, structural steel, fire plans, roadways, and grading, preparing bills of material, and participating in plant walkdowns to support configuration management.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and update civil drawings, sketches, and operational flowsheets for station projects/modifications.

  • Produce detailed and study drawings (reinforced concrete, structural steel, fire protection, roadways, grading).

  • Create CAD drawings supporting design changes, fabrication, construction, and technical studies for facilities/site improvements.

  • Conduct plant walkdowns to verify field conditions and support configuration management.

  • Gather and validate reference information; confirm assignment scope, requirements, and drawing/detail limits.

  • Perform required technical calculations to support accurate design/drafting.

  • Resolve drafting/design issues by escalating gaps/conflicts and coordinating with other disciplines for clarification/inputs.

  • Prepare bills of material/material lists (descriptions, catalog numbers, quantities) using catalogs/Passport to support procurement and documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in civil engineering technology.

  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience producing and revising civil CAD deliverables (drawings, sketches, and operational flowsheets) for industrial/station facility projects.

  • Proven capability developing detailed drawings for reinforced concrete, structural steel, fire protection/site plans, roadways, and grading.

  • Experience participating in plant/field walkdowns, verifying as-built conditions, and incorporating field data into controlled design documents (configuration management mindset).

  • Ability to gather, validate, and apply reference information from records, standards, and stakeholders; strong skill in confirming scope, requirements, and drawing limits before execution.

  • Competence performing required civil/structural calculations using algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and prescribed formulas to support design accuracy.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to resolve drafting/design questions, escalate conflicts/missing details, and coordinate inputs across multiple disciplines.

  • Experience preparing BOMs/material lists (descriptions, catalog numbers, quantities) to support procurement, fabrication, and complete drawing documentation; familiarity with catalog-based material identification and asset/procurement systems (e.g., Passport or similar) preferred.

  • Ability to produce mechanical engineering design deliverables using CAD tools.

  • Strong commitment to nuclear safety culture, including conservative decision-making, questioning attitude, procedural adherence, and accountability.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
