About the role
The successful Material Science co-op student will ideally be an analytical material science enthusiast to work in our Materials and Dimensional lab; to help ensure production and prototype parts from our suppliers are within specification and to aid in the investigation of part failures in the field.

Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret drawings, standard work instructions, work specifications, and procedures
- Section components
- Mount, polish and etch samples and analyze metallurgy
- Perform surface hardness and case depth analysis
- Collect, record, document and enter all data into process database as required
- Setup, calibrate and maintain all tools, equipment, systems, processes and machines which are used to perform work
- Maintain, service, calibrate, repair, or create gauges and standards as required
Qualifications (experience/skills):
- Pursuing a Mechanical, Metallurgical or Materials Engineering Technologist diploma or Bachelor’s degree program.
- Knowledge of the microscopic evaluation of steel
- Experience preparing samples of ferrous alloys
- Familiarity with use of acids for micro and macro etching
- Ability to operate Rockwell and micro-hardness testers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to taking on challenging technical tasks
- Ability to quickly comprehend new concepts, processes and systems

- Wages will vary ($26 - $29 per hour), and commensurate with the number of years of your program that you have completed
- Accepting 3rd and 4th year students
- Please note there are no remote or hybrid co-op positions available
- Mandatory cover letter, resume, and current transcript required
- This location (Kitchener) is accessible by public transportation; however your own transportation is recommended for travel to machine test sites, other plants etc.
