Our Whiteshell location is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to deliver patient‑focused medical services, emergency response, and disease‑prevention support. What will you be doing!

  • Performing health centre nursing services, including medical assessments, first aid treatment, emergency response, radiological medical response, occupational immunizations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, vision screening, and communicable disease management.
  • Assisting with disability management by assessing physical and psychological needs, identifying goals, and developing comprehensive case management plans.
  • Managing disability claims by coordinating interventions with internal and external stakeholders and facilitating safe, timely return‑to‑work plans.
  • Coordinating the management of communicable and vaccine‑preventable diseases to control exposures and outbreaks.
  • Collecting and analyzing vaccination and compliance data, including flu campaign participation and departmental immunization status.
  • Participating in planning and delivering public flu vaccination programs with health centre staff and volunteers.
  • Delivering first aid and on‑site medical support for staff illnesses and injuries.
  • Developing, coordinating, and delivering health promotion initiatives, training, and workshops to support employee well‑being and organizational productivity.
  • Providing medical preparation and immunization support for employees deployed to other locations.
  • Supporting the safety program by offering medical expertise and guidance.
  • Collecting, safeguarding, and managing confidential medical information related to absences, accommodations, injury/illness, safety issues, and workplace concerns, exercising sound judgment regarding required disclosures.
  • Collecting and analyzing data on absences, workplace injuries, communicable diseases, accommodation requests, and health and safety trends, and recommending corrective actions to management.
  • Developing and leading workshops on occupational health topics and acting as a resource to committees.
  • Maintaining a valid driver’s license and access to transportation for occasional, local, work-related travel.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education

  • Degree in Nursing and a registered active member in good standing with the Ontario College of Registered Nurses with specialization in Occupational Health.

  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing.

  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED/Oxygen Administration Certification is essential. Required to obtain an advanced level if hired.

  • Experience

  • Minimum of three years of progressive experience as a registered nurse in an occupational health and safety setting, including experience with disability management and accommodation in a complex organization.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have excellent professional, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage the day-to-day operations within an ever changing work environment.

  • Demonstrated ability in writing concise reports, preparing project plans, conducting workshops and giving presentations.

  • Ability to coach line management on attendance, accommodation and disability management-related issues.

  • Demonstrated conflict resolution experience and ability to persuade or influence individuals to change.

  • Provide health care to workers in a clinical setting in compliance with professional licence and scope of practice.

  • Extensive working knowledge and application of Canada Labour Code and its respective regulations, Privacy Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulated Health Professional Act, Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, etc.

  • Knowledge of the Workers' Compensation Act and the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) policies is an asset.

  • An excellent understanding of Industrial Emergency Scene Management and the First Aid Program is essential.

  • Knowledge and the understanding of appropriate responses to radiological incidents/injuries are assets.

  • Must be a team player with interpersonal skills for dealing with employees at all levels and in a unionized environment.

  • Knowledge and experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office/Outlook/Word/Excel/Access, and applicable hearing test software.

  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required

  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions

  • Working schedule: We have a compressed work week: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Must be available for on-call support as required.
  • Safely handling biological and chemical products during Health Centre activities (e.g., medical care, wound care, phlebotomy, sharps handling, emergency response equipment, and biological samples).
  • Wearing and working in PPE and protective clothing (e.g., N95 or radiological respirator, extreme‑weather gear) for extended periods as required.
  • Driving an emergency response truck, including climbing in and out of the vehicle and loading/unloading emergency response equipment.
  • Performing basic daily vehicle maintenance, such as snow removal from the emergency vehicle.
  • Walking or ambulating up to 500 metres outdoors in all weather conditions during drills and emergency response, while carrying emergency response equipment as needed.
  • Standing and sitting for long periods throughout the workday.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
