Job Summary Reporting to the Senior Nursing Manager, the incumbent will support the overall quality care and compliance of PSW’s in the long term care home. They will coordinate and complete administrative tasks to ensure the effective operation of the nursing department. They will support orientation of new PSW’s, tasks related to resident personal care matters as well as conduct resident care audits. This position may also act as a front-line PSW providing skilled care to residents if needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage in home PSW orientation and support new staff/student training and mentoring.
  • A dedicated resource to lead and support change management and support follow-up re: education/training to ensure PSW knowledge transfer.
  • Assist with the admission processes.
  • Coordinate monthly PSW meetings across the shifts and support communications for PSW’s
  • Maintain resident lists related to bath schedules, POC assignments and tasks in conjunction with Managers of Resident Care.
  • Support the completion of quality audits on the home areas including resident care audits (logo’s, mobility equipment, falls prevention equipment etc.).
  • Participate in home committee meetings and in-service education.
  • Contribute and provide input for new policy, procedure and process as it relates to the PSW role.
  • As required support, provide skilled care for all activities of daily living for residents in accordance with home policies, established standards and recognized best practice.
  • Provide assistance with resident meal service as required.
  • Support initiatives at the home level including support and assistance to technology related processes as required.
  • Contribute to a healthy and safe work environment and positive workplace culture.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Personal Support Worker certificate
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in long term care
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation and use of a computer, related technologies and software required (Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • Registered Practical Nurse diploma
  • Registration with the CNO in good standing

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months) two-step tuberculosis test or Quanti-FERON-TB Gold plus test by the first day of employment.
