About the role
Location: Montreal and New York City (in-office); other Canadian and U.S. regions (remote) Salary: 100k-200k As a Portfolio Associate, you will report to the General Manager and provide support to the Screen Portfolio Team, with a dedicated focus on building, managing, and optimizing portfolio databases. This role demands strong analytical skills, along with the capability to efficiently manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment. You will also bring technical capabilities, particularly in database creation, maintenance, and optimization . Responsibilities
- Database Development & Management: Lead the creation and maintenance of comprehensive entertainment-related databases. Ensure high data integrity through audits and work closely with engineering, product, editorial, and other teams to integrate accurate, real-time data into CMS tools, content workflows, and product features.
- P&L Management & Optimization: Assist in managing the P&L down to the EBITDA level, focusing on identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost optimization. Track financial performance and recommend adjustments to align with business goals.
- Content & Audience Development: Collaborate with editorial teams and other Portfolio Associates to identify database-powered content opportunities. Use structured data, trend analysis, and other insights to strengthen content strategies and drive increased traffic, engagement, and audience growth.
- Competitive Analysis & Market Research: Conduct research to guide database structure and improvements. Stay informed on industry shifts to maintain a competitive edge.
- New Venture Development: Support the identification and exploration of new database-related projects, ventures, and partnerships that complement or expand the existing portfolio. Assist in preparing business cases and feasibility assessments for potential initiatives.
- Team Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with brand leaders and cross-department teams to ensure databases support editorial, product, and other needs. Contribute to setting goals, tracking progress, and fostering collaboration.
- Reporting & Strategic Adjustments: Generate reports on KPIs related to database performance. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management to drive continuous improvement.
- VBS Implementation: Embrace and advocate for the Valnet Business System (VBS) by focusing on operational excellence, profitability, and accountability. Apply VBS principles in your approach to optimize workflows and enhance overall performance.
- Efficiency & Process Improvement: Streamline data and operational workflows to support timely project execution. Identify opportunities for automation, scalability, and improved accuracy across the Screen portfolio.
Requirements
- 3–8 years of experience in roles such as Business Analyst, Data Operations Specialist, or Database Manager, ideally within media, publishing, entertainment, or tech.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Data Science, Information Systems, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated experience using data to drive decisions.
- Hands-on experience with database creation, structuring, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, Excel, and other data analysis platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
- Passion and understanding of entertainment databases, digital publishing, content strategy, and audience engagement.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable managing long-term technical projects.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines independently while contributing to team objectives.
