Job Description

Job Title: Senior Accountant

Reports To: Financial Controller

Hours: 42.5 Hours per week including 2.5 hours banked overtime

Summary: The Senior Accountant is responsible for general accounting entries, working paper and report preparation, as well as general accounting duties and account reconciliations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Financial Controller in executing the duties of the Finance department

  • Lead and support Finance Department projects and initiatives

  • Preparation of Bank reconciliations and month end accounting entries

  • Provide financial expertise and advice to other departments

  • Monthly workpaper preparation

    • Workpaper package for recurring items such as depreciation, prepaids, accrued liabilities, bank tasks
  • Balance subledgers to G/L on monthly basis

  • Support and expertise to A/P and A/R staff

    • Includes ability to fill in for A/P data entry and A/R claims/billings
    • Reconcile vendor statements and/or accounts.
  • KPI data preparation

  • Assist in implementing the Finance department ERP system modules and become in-house advisor on use of the modules.

  • Monthly data entry to keep internal finance reports (e.g. rolling 12 month forecast) up to date.

    • Investigate and report on variances between forecast and actual
  • Assist with documentation and testing of finance department procedures and related internal controls

  • Ensure strict confidentiality and privacy of financial records as they relate to the organization and its business partners.

  • Performs any other duties or tasks as assigned by the Financial Controller

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift/carry boxes/packages/parcels up to 20lbs (includes floor to waist lifting).
  • Sitting for extended periods
  • Periodic climbing (stairs)
  • Repetitive use of hands/wrists with light grasping
  • Occasional walking/twisting/bending/reaching above and below shoulder.

Work Environment:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment, minimal noise with temperature controls.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) if in the manufacturing facility to include but not limited to, safety glasses, steel toe foot protection, hearing protection, and hard hats.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Post secondary degree or diploma in Finance or Accounting with minimum 5 years' experience, or comparable combination of education and experience
    • Experience with SAGE 300 ERP system an asset

    • Solid understanding of accounting principles, budgets, and bookkeeping.
    • General Safety polices & procedures.
    • Intermediate oral comprehension and expression; Must speak, read and write in English fluently.
    • Literacy equivalent to OECD Level 3 or higher
    • Complex problem solving
