The Opportunity

We’re looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our GCS Operations team in downtown Toronto. In this hybrid role, you’ll play a key part in supporting our GCS Underwriting teams while gaining hands-on experience and building a strong foundation for a future underwriting career.

This is your opportunity to learn, grow, and develop your expertise. You’ll assist with processing commercial policies, underwriting transactions, and reports—including new and renewal business and endorsements. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential as you provide critical administrative and clerical support to underwriters and stakeholders.

What you’ll do

  • Working both collaboratively and autonomously while ensuring deadlines are met as part of a hybrid team is critical to the success of this role
  • Assisting GCS Central Support in logging new submissions, processing declinatures and as back up to Service Support Assistants
  • Assisting GCS Underwriting with renewal and endorsement preparation as assigned while completing electronic filing of underwriting documents
  • Assisting GCS Central Support and Underwriting preparing loss control reports, ordering D&B reports, preparing various analysis reports, insurance binders and other documents as required for underwriters and key stakeholders
  • Responding to broker service requests on behalf of underwriting as well as following up on information needed from brokers on behalf of underwriting
  • Data entry in RTM, RTG, Salesforce and inhouse systems while ensuring the integrity of data is top priority
  • Timely reconciliation of financial discrepancies working collaboratively and effectively with GCS Stakeholders
  • Produce reports, presentations and information summaries as required
  • Special projects as required

What you’ll bring

  • Completion of a related educational degree/diploma and/or accreditation.
  • Ideal candidate has 1-2 years’ strong experience in an administrative and support function with proven attention to detail and accuracy while executing above average time management skills in an underwriting environment is preferred.
  • You will need to be confident and comfortable to manage a healthy level of autonomy while being accountable to various teams for the responsibilities of your role.
  • Excellent technical aptitude with web, DOS based systems and strong experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong proficiency in creating professional documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, managing emails, and staying organized with calendars and task lists.
  • Excellent oral and written communication at all levels (with internal and external partners).
  • Superior organization and time-management skills with the ability to adapt in a dynamic, priority-changing environment is critical for success in this role.
  • Vested interest in learning and building a career in the commercial insurance space.
