Therefore, we are seeking a Contractor - Benefits Consultant to join our growing team in Calgary, Alberta. This dynamic role will be instrumental in administering and ensuring compliance of health, retirement, disability, and leave programs across Canada and the U.S. The role supports benefits planning, renewals, and communications, and collaborates with vendors and internal teams to manage 401(k) plans, monitor legislative changes, and improve program effectiveness and cost efficiency.

Please note this is a 12-month contract role.

Your Role with Our Team

US content:

  • Day to day benefits, 401(k), FMLA/leave administration.
  • Supports annual benefits renewal cycle, including analysis, communication and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance, SPDs, 5500’s, discrimination testing, valuations and disclosures.
  • Assists with 401(k) plan administration in partnership with external recordkeeper, including calculating annual limits, accurate processing of contributions, and timely resolution of escalated issues.
  • Monitors regulatory changes and trends to ensure compliance and relevant benefits/401(k) offerings.

Canadian content:

  • Provides back-up support for benefits plan administration.
  • Oversight for disability management and leaves.

Other/General:

  • Evaluates program effectiveness, and cost efficiency to drive continuous improvement.
  • Assists with benefits communication, education, and engagement strategies to maximize employee understanding and value.
  • Assists with ad hoc Canadian/US benefits/401K projects as required.

Your Background

  • 8+ years benefits experience with a minimum of 1-2 years US benefit/401K experience.
  • Expert knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, and US Federal and state laws related to health, welfare, retirement and leave programs.
  • Experience with leading change initiatives and program implementation.
  • Strong planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands.
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Sensitivity to confidential information.
