About the role

Position Summary

We are currently looking for a hard working and dedicated Environmental Services Worker/Food Service Worker/Laundry Worker to fill a at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.
Pay Rate: Cleaner & Food Services II ($24.34). Laundry Worker II (25.26)

FOOD SERVICE WORKER II: In accordance with established vision and values of the organization and working within the scope of Northern Health (NH) Regional Policies and Processes, the NH Regional Food Safety Plan and the NH Regional Food Sanitation Plan, this position assists the Cooks, blending, grinding, slicing, preparing salads, vegetables, sandwiches, and portioning desserts, measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients. Sets up and portions, with accuracy, patient trays and / or resident meals including therapeutic diet items according to nutrition care plans. Check patient trays to ensure accuracy. Prepares items such as tea, coffee and toast. Washes dishes, pots, pans, utensils and performs general cleaning. Serves staff meals and oversees the collection and receipt of cash for items purchased which may include punching meal tickets.

LAUNDRY WORKER II: In accordance with established vision and values of the organization and working within the scope of Regional Northern Health Policies and Processes, the Laundry Worker III operates non-domestic laundry equipment such as washers/tunnel washers, extractors, dryers, etc. and provides supervision to designated Laundry Workers by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, and determining related training and orientation requirements.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES WORKER: In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, this position performs a variety of environmental services duties throughout the facility. Maintains clean and disinfected conditions in areas such as patient/resident/client rooms, Operating Rooms, Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory, Labour and Delivery Rooms, washrooms, corridors, hallways, lounges, offices, and common areas used by staff, visitors and patients/residents/clients as established in Northern Health Regional Environmental Services Policies and Processes. Additional: Float positions fall under Article 16.11 of the collective agreement and don’t follow all language of the collective agreement. Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days - 07:00 to 13:00, Rotating

Bulkley Valley District Hospital is a 24-bed Acute Care facility,
which integrates home and community care into one facility. Some of the services include:

Smithers Smithers is located in the picturesque Bulkley Valley surrounded by three mountain ranges which provide a backdrop for the town’s Alpine setting. The population of Smithers is approximately 6,000, with an additional 5,000 from the surrounding communities that access services. Qualifications

FOOD SERVICE WORKER II: Grade 10 with one (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

LAUNDRY WORKER II: Grade 10, plus two years' recent related experience in a commercial or industrial laundry or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES WORKER: Grade 10, plus one (1) years’ recent related experience in a commercial or industrial laundry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

FOOD SERVICE WORKER II:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

LAUNDRY WORKER II:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Some knowledge of washing ingredients.
