Job Summary: The Machine Operator will work within our Blanching Department and other various manual machines to produce premium quality, high precision, and cutting tools. Will verify accuracy by using engineering prints, component drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering specifications.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the setup and offsets as required.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances for finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and material on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors and speed, feed, depth, and angle cut.
- Check machinery on a daily basis to ensure functionality.
- Other duties assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Certification from a qualified training institution in the field of machining is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 1 year machine shop experience is required.
- Experience with Blanching Machines is preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong math skills required to perform day to day operations including the ability to convert metric to inch and decimal to fraction.
- Ability to accurately read blueprints.
- Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
- Ability to machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders.
- Ability to measure, examine, and test completed tools in order to detect defects and ensure conformance with specifications.
- Ability to set up, adjust, and operate basic machine tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
- Ability to monitor feeds and speeds of machines during the machining process.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing with some lifting, bending, and twisting.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, bend or kneel when required.
