About the role
The Culinary Co-op Student will assist the kitchen team with daily food preparation & service, cleaning, and basic cooking tasks while gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen. Under the supervision of the chefs and kitchen staff, the student will learn proper food handling, sanitation, cooking techniques, and professional food presentation while gaining experience with a variety of service styles, including buffets, passed canapés, plated dinners, and chef-led action stations, all in accordance with health and safety standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Prepare, pre-cook and/or cook food products as directed. Prepare “mise en place” (setting in place of foods, garnishes, sauces, dishes, cutlery, etc) and other products as required for high volume event space. Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures. Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas. Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments. Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately. Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Enrolled in a culinary program at a recognized cooking school, requiring a co-op position. Food Safety Certification required. Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures. You bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and aren’t afraid to ask questions or try something new. You enjoy working as part of a team and can take direction from chefs and kitchen leaders. You’re comfortable being on your feet, working in a fast-paced environment, and helping with physical tasks like lifting up to 25 lbs (11 kg), bending, and carrying supplies. You’re flexible and ready to jump into a variety of kitchen and event experiences as part of your co-op schedule. Most importantly, you’re passionate about food and eager to gain hands-on experience that will help launch your culinary career!
