About the role

Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity to start with the youth addictions and mental health portfolio with the Red Deer Step up Step down SUSD Program! We are looking to add to our team of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) professionals to support the mental health treatment of adolescents aged 13-17 in a voluntary live-in program. We are looking for an experienced candidate to join our team at the brand-new Center for Excellence! The ideal candidate will have a passion for working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support our young clients and their families through the path of care continuum. They will be responsible for daily care to our patients, liaising with the families and medical team, and being a part of the overall treatment team. Red Deer has an overarching Children's Team focus, supporting all other programs in the portfolio as needed. Multisite is listed to include Unit 39 at the Red Deer Hospital (youth acute stabilization), PChAD (Protection of Children Abusing Drugs), the outpatient clinic in Red Deer (currently at the provincial building downtown) and any other future programs. You understand the complex relationships between the youth's physical, emotional, mental, developmental, and spiritual health. You will be patient centered and family centered in your care practices, following Recovery Alberta Values and Policies. An ability to create strong relationships with the youth, families, and our team are a critical asset to this position. Please note that the position you are interviewing for/being offered has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Candidates who accept an offer of employment for this position will transition to Recovery Alberta.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience working within a mental health scope of practice or with the pediatric population is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a psychosocial program with youth and families considered an asset.
