About Us

The mission of BrainsCAN is to improve cognitive neuroscience in health and disease. It aims to transform the way that brain diseases and disorders are understood, diagnosed, and treated to reduce the burden of brain diseases and disorders affecting millions Canadians. To achieve these goals, BrainsCAN has supported various research projects and platforms, one of them being Touchscreen Cognition.

Touchscreen Cognition (TC) is an innovative research ecosystem that directly addresses the urgent and critical challenge of improving clinical translation and patient outcomes by enhancing the standards of behavioural testing through cutting-edge technology and collaborative efforts. It is centered on a¿touchscreen-based system¿that allows assessment of high-level cognition. The tests for rodents are designed to be similar or identical to those used in human patients. The automation and standardization inherent in this approach achieves more¿accurate, robust, and reproducible phenotyping of mice than conventional approaches. Use of this touchscreen-based system is also expanding to human populations. The TC research ecosystem (MouseTRAP, MouseBytes, Touchscreen Community, Pubscreen) provides services, tools, and platforms to improve translatability of preclinical research.¿
