Unit Clerks perform clerical functions in a variety of areas in support of patient care. These functions vary from department to department and generally include reception, communications, data entry, organization of patient information, and to organize supplies and activities to facilitate the care of patients on a nursing unit. Unit Clerks practice as members of a multi-disciplinary team and follow the Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values, and policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of Post-Secondary Certificate or Diploma in a one (1) year program from a Community College in a related field
  • Completion of Medical Terminology Course
  • Minimum of three (3) months of experience within a hospital or clerical setting
  • Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in oral and written formats with patients, the public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience about the functioning of a nursing unit
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Power Point
  • Demonstrated ability to manage Data Entry and maintain database
  • Experience working in an out-patient program would be an asset
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
