Invites applications for the position of:

Regional Internal Audit Specialist

Exempt Level 7C ( Salary - $95,533 - $117,637 per annum)

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Regional Internal Audit, the Regional Internal Audit Specialist will conduct risk-based, operational and compliance internal audits at the six school boards within the Toronto and Area Region and report on the findings of these audits to the relevant board.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Execute risk-based internal audits as well as analyze, review, document and evaluate the internal controls of the school boards within the Toronto and Area Region.

  • Assist the engagement manager in executing advisory engagements.

  • Perform risk assessments and audit planning activities, prepare audit working papers to document findings and conclusions and assist the engagement manager in preparing draft audit reports.

  • Communicate audit findings and propose recommendations to address internal control weaknesses and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the school board’s governance, risk management and control processes.

  • Respond to queries from school boards within Toronto and Area Region as well as research, analyze and report on issues as they arise.

  • Participate in special audit projects as requested by the audit committees within Toronto and Area Region.

  • Attend Audit Committee meetings to discuss internal audit findings, as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant university degree and progress towards obtaining a professional accounting designation (CPA) and/or internal audit designation (CIA).

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of the Global Internal Audit Standards and audit methodologies.

  • Experience independently conducting all phases of operational and compliance audits (planning, fieldwork, reporting and follow-up).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent research, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Solid experience using Microsoft Office and audit software (e.g. AuditBoard).

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships with colleagues and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Results-oriented individual with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Knowledge of the school board sector would be an asset.

  • Proficiency in analyzing large datasets using data analytics tools such as Caseware IDEA or ACL would be an asset.
