The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.

What You’ll Do

We're searching for a highly motivated Advanced Biotechnology student, preferably with a background in chemical analysis or medical diagnostics, to join the Development team at Abbott Point of Care Canada. The successful candidate will be working in the fast-paced R&D Development group to help with verification and validation activities, including execution and logistics, within a quality-controlled environment for innovative point of care diagnostic test cartridges based on microfluidics as part of the i-STAT System.

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time registration at time of application in an Advanced Biotechnology or equivalent program
  • Hands-on laboratory work experience.
  • Experience in chemistry and/or biochemistry laboratory, preferred.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and study protocols and follow good documentation practices.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Minimum GPA of B+ or equivalence
  • Strong verbal and written communication/documentation skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • 4-month or 8-month work term/2/3 days per week.
