JOB SUMMARY:
The Harvest Safety Coordinator’s main role is to assist the agriculture department to ensure that safe work practices are being followed and maintained during Lantic’s sugar beet harvest throughout its seven piling ground locations. This role is responsible for providing safety leadership and guidance with safety training, orientation, site inspections, as well as incident and injury management. This position will report to the Health & Safety Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting orientations,
  • Completing all safety training issued by company,
  • Basic safety training,
  • Site inspections,
  • Behavior based observations,
  • Peer to peer observations,
  • Incident investigations,
  • Assisting the safety department with injury management and modified work placements,
  • Monitoring daily activities on piling grounds to ensure employees, contractors and truck drivers are working in compliance within Lantic safe work standards
  • Complying with all Alberta/Lantic Inc driving regulations and policies,
  • Ensuring company vehicle is maintained and in good working conditions,
  • Distribute PPE to new employees and to receiving station supervision,
  • Identify hazardous work conditions and work with onsite supervision to remove and/or correct hazards,
  • Input all data findings to online safety management software,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completion of relevant post-secondary education preferred
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or other designations are an asset
  • 3-5 years of related experience preferred
  • Solid knowledge of related Occupational Health and Safety Acts
  • Intermediate computer knowledge of MS Office software and database systems
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Strong sense of accountability
  • Ability to engage people according to the company’s mission/values
  • Detail oriented

WORKING CONDITIONS (OFFICE/PLANT, TRAVELING, ON CALL, ETC):
We will operate three rotating shifts and will typically work an 8-hour shift, however additional hours may be occasionally required when incidents occur. Site rotation schedule is set each week, but you may be required to assist site supervisors at different stations.

  • Outdoor conditions can be hot, humid, dusty, dry, wet, cold, and loud
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times on grounds

Physical requirements

  • Frequent walking, bending, climbing, and reaching required in the above-mentioned working conditions

Other Requirements

  • Class 5 drivers license
  • Acceptable 5-years’ drivers abstract
  • Union experiences an asset
  • Strong understanding of the Alberta OH&S Act, Regulations & code
  • First aid / CPR
