Join The Team:
ERCO Worldwide is looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our Engineering team! The I&C Engineer provides instrumentation and controls design support for projects, as well as designs and programs Safety Instrumented System (SIS) and Distributed Control System (DCS) to automate and monitor plant operations. The scope of responsibilities will include preparation of specifications, instrument purchasing, loop diagrams, interlock diagrams, field installation assistance, field commissioning, Low Voltage (LV) Electrical installation support, SIS and DCS hardware design, software programming, control panel design, field installation, commissioning, technical and plant shutdown support activities at ERCO manufacturing sites and for external customer sites.
**The Role:**Project Design Support:
- Develop and participate in Instrumentation design support for projects including preparation of specifications, loop sheets, location drawings, calculations, interlock details, review of Operator’s Manual and procurement process. Ensure that instrument designs conform to ERCO standards. Develop, maintain, and revise ERCO instrument engineering and safety standards to ensure that plant instrument personnel are knowledgeable on latest codes and standards.
SIS and DCS design and programming:
- Designs and configure SIS and DCS hardware in accordance to industry safety standards including hardware and software selection, Control Panel and Marshalling Panel design. Establish data network and communications with various control systems. Configure SCADA, HMI and Historian Database. Provide SIS and DCS technical support for all plants in 24x7 basis.
Field Commissioning:
- Lead SIS and DCS commissioning and provide immediate program adjustments to accommodate unexpected design issues. Provides Low Voltage (LV) Electrical installation support. Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions or reconfigure instruments to accommodate actual process conditions or unexpected design issues. Supervision of complete interlock check prior to chemical commissioning.
Customer Interface:
- Liaise with Engineering Consultants and External Customers to reach agreements on all instrumentation details including vendor and standards to ensure consistency in the design, meet all customer expectations and no rework due to unacceptable equipment selection.
Supplier Interface:
- Keep updated with new developments and maintain knowledge of vendors in the marketplace to assist with qualifying suppliers for use by company and acquire ongoing knowledge of new developments in the marketplace to achieve up to date knowledge of equipment that may be requested by clients and maintain good relationship and knowledge of contacts in the supplier industry.
Quality Improvement Teams:
- Actively participate in Quality Improvement activities to improve the organization including design improvements, changes to work practices, new product development and manufacturing projects. Target for reduction in costs and time to complete a project, timely and smooth introduction of new products to the plant design and improvements in the manufacturing process.
General Administration:
- Participate and assist in preparing budget estimates for new projects, training, reading related industry materials, meetings, etc. Participation in and support to departments outside of Engineering. Reports, provides update and assistance to department manager in all assigned project activities, administrative tasks. Meeting, training, reading magazines, filing, etc., participation in and support to departments outside of Engineering to achieve continuous improvement of personal skills, consistently aware of corporate activities and policies and support of corporate policies and initiatives.
The Person:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or electrical engineering or Control Engineering or related discipline required.
- Professional Engineering License. (P.Eng) required.
- Experience in Chemical or Petro-Chemical Industries in similar position.
- 5-10 years in Chemical and associated industries in instrumentation design, engineering and best practices. Hands on with field instrumentation, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Interlock Systems (SIS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Analytic Instruments for at least 5 years. Instruments and Controls Design, system integration, DCS, SIS, SCADA, Hardware and Instrument Specifications, Loop Schematics, P&ID Layout, Field & Analytic instrument commissioning. Safety Risk Assessment in chemical industries for at least 8 - 10 years.
- In depth knowledge of Instruments - proper instrument selection based on instrument measuring principals, material and mechanical limitations.
- Experience in PLC, DCS, SIS programming, field and analytic instrumentation commissioning.
- TUV Functional Safety or equivalent knowledge on instrumentation design standards, Low Voltage (LV) Electrical installation and commissioning.
- Inorganic chemistry – sodium chlorate and chlor alkali knowledge.
- This individual will be reporting to our Senior Manager, Electrical & Instrumentation.
