About the Role
Join Semex as an Afternoon Animal Care Lead Hand, where you'll play a key role in bull collection operations, animal husbandry, and overall housing performance. In this hands-on role, you'll ensure the health, care, and training of the bulls while supporting daily farm operations, equipment maintenance, and team guidance.
What You Will Do
Semen Collection
- Reviews daily collection schedule and ensures bulls are prepared and ready for collection.
- Prepares collection equipment to ensure safe and sterile handling throughout the collection process.
- Works with the Animal Care team to collect bulls safely and efficiently in accordance with standard collection procedures.
- Handles bulls for maximum collection results.
Animal Husbandry
- Cleans and refreshes bedding and pens, through both mechanical and manual processes, in accordance with the set schedule.
- Feeds bulls, through both mechanical and manual processes, in accordance with the set schedule.
- Observes bulls for health and temperament; discusses concerns with Animal Care Supervisor.
- Provides standard sire care including, and not limited to, clipping, washing and feet trimming.
- Works with new/young bulls to train them on the collection process.
- Prepares bulls for visitor viewing sessions; participates in viewing as required.
Training and Staff Support
- Provide training and support to Animal Care Specialists as directed by Animal Care Supervisor
- Provide direction to Animal Care Specialists to complete day-to-day tasks in the absence of the Animal Care Supervisor
Farm, Equipment and General Maintenance
- Uses equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and with required safety equipment; reports issues of non-compliance to Animal Care Supervisor.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment, where trained to do so; reports issues/concernregardingthe operational safety and/or functionality of equipment to Animal Care Supervisorimmediately.
What You Need to Succeed
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong agricultural background with experience in livestock handling and care
- Ability to operate farm equipment; solid mechanical aptitude
- Physically capable of handling large animals
- Excellent communication skills and a team-orientedmindset.

Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate
This is an in-person role requiring 5 days per week in our Guelph location working 2:30 - 11:00 PM Monday to Friday, with a rotating weekend schedule. This role offers a minimum starting salary of $49, 500 annually, with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications.
