GNIE Instructor POSITION TYPE: Non-regular type 2 appointment – full time

The Faculty of Health at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one full time Non-Regular Type 2 (one-year appointment for the period May 1st, 2026 to April 30th, 2027) faculty to teach in our Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-Entry Program (GNIE). NR2 faculty engage in teaching, student support, service to the school and program and professional development activities. They are entitled to paid vacation leave, professional development leave and benefits.

FACULTY OVERVIEW: The Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-entry (GNIE) program is a full time one-year certificate program which prepares internationally educated nurses (IENs) for professional nursing practice and licensure in Canada. The program is designed to prepare IENs to practice within the Canadian healthcare system, renew and enhance previously acquired knowledge and skills, identify and address individual needs, ensure graduates meet the professional practice requirements, and enable effective communication skills with patients and colleagues. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives and to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

This unique program prepares internationally educated nurses (IENs) for professional nursing practice in Canada. This program is designed for IENs who demonstrate fundamental knowledge-based nursing practice and are required by The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) to renew and enhance nursing knowledge and skills, in preparation for nursing practice and licensure in Canada.

This program is designed to:

  • Prepare IENs to practice within the Canadian health care setting
  • Renew and enhance previously acquired knowledge and skills
  • Identify and address individual needs
  • Ensure graduates meet the professional practice requirements
  • Enable effective communication skills with patients and colleagues

Note: Clinical placements take place at any of the Lower Mainland hospitals between North Vancouver and Chilliwack.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Courses may include Lab, Theory and or Clinical (medical / surgical) courses in the GNIE program. The appointment will include teaching across two or three semesters and includes benefits and paid vacation. The NR2 position includes teaching, student support, service to the school and program and professional development activities. Faculty members are accountable for 10 months of the year. The 10 months accountable time includes such activities as teaching, the counselling of students, curriculum/program development, professional development and participation on a variety of educational committees.

Teaching duties include:

  • The development and revision of course outlines and curriculum
  • The preparation of courses, including but not limited to course presentations, online delivery platforms, and other course related activities
  • Responsibility for the delivery of courses, including lectures, seminars, laboratories, clinical supervision, simulations, field trips, and in-person, online or hybrid course delivery
  • Student assessment, testing, and placement
  • Student consultations, including office hours (1 hour per week per 3 credit course or equivalent)
  • Work integrated learning placements
  • Submission of grades in accordance with policy

Service may include:

  • Participation in program, department, faculty, and university committees and events.
  • Participation in program quality assurance activities including program review and accreditation
  • Participation in regional, national and international committees and other professional organizations

QUALIFICATIONS: The required academic credentials to teach in the GNIE program are specific to the program and are as follows:

  • Master’s Degree (Master’s Degree in progress)
  • Eligible for practicing membership with BCCNM with no limits, no conditions, no terms.
  • Experience in integration and education of IENs in Canada preferred.
  • Related work experience in Canada

-SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
