Position Summary :

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with WWRCP philosophy, policies and standards of care of Grand River Hospital, the College of Nurses (CNO) and all relevant legislation.

The RPN coordinates care for outpatient oncology and chemotherapy suite patients requiring assessment and supportive treatment in an outpatient environment. Collaborates closely with physicians and other disciplines. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors

Position Requirements:

• Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario, Two years’ experience

• Oncology experience mandatory

• IV certification and expertise required

• CPR certification required

• Ability to function effectively and autonomously in a clinical area with high turnover

• Experience with administration and management of blood products, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, CVAD care and management

• Completion or plan to complete (enrolled) Foundations in Oncology required

• Demonstrated ability to problem solve to keep the patient safe

• Advanced assessment skills and knowledge is essential

• Demonstrated communication skills necessary to interact with interdisciplinary teams, patients, families and care givers

• Dependability, reliability and adaptability Demonstrates behavior consistent with Grand River Hospital’s mission, vision and values
