Job Summary
Within UVic Libraries Collection Management Services, the Interlibrary Loan Unit supports UVic Libraries' values and objectives by contributing to a strong and diverse staff team dedicated to providing excellent customer service to Library users.
Reporting to the Interlibrary Loan Operations Supervisor, this position acts as a point of contact in providing customer service to all library users and assists users with access to materials and services.
The position assists with directing workflow and acts as a resource for staff in coordinating and accomplishing daily operations of Interlibrary Loans. The Interlibrary Loan Assistant develops experience and expertise in a variety of specialized equipment, databases, and citation systems, including but not limited to: Alma, Relais, and OCLC WorldShare. This position requires moving items throughout the building and accessing materials at various heights.
Job Requirements
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in a similar position, preferably in a post-secondary, library, or institutional environment; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with effective attention to detail and time management.
- Demonstrated experience in providing customer service.
- Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the general public effectively and consistently while respecting confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively in an independent or team environment.
- Computer and software proficiency (Microsoft Office suite, Excel, databases, Adobe Acrobat).
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel.
- Ability to exercise reasoning, judgement, and creativity to solve problems and adapt to changing systems and workflows.
- Knowledge of library bibliographic records is an asset.
- Familiarity with searching different libraries' catalogues to locate materials, assess holdings, and identify lending policies is an asset.
Specialized Knowledge/Education:
Secondary school graduation or equivalent. Some post-secondary education is preferred.
