QT - ELECTRICIAN
The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District No. 83 invites qualified individuals to apply for our Temporary Electrician position. This is a Regular 40 Hours per week CUPE union position, and the rate of pay is $37.74 per hour. The effective date is as soon as possible, until as soon as possible until August 31, 2026, return of incumbent or services no longer required.
THE DISTRICT:
The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is a widely dispersed district which includes the five major communities of Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Sorrento, Enderby, and Armstrong. The school district provides educational support for 6,800 K-12 students in twenty-two schools with a professional staff of more than 1,200 employees. The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is committed to enhancing a positive work environment for staff and a dynamic and supportive educational experience for students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE**:**
- Install, test and maintain all types of electrical and HVAC systems and equipment at School District facilities. (for example: fire and intruder alarm and public address systems, control systems DDC, etc.)
- Develop preventative maintenance schedules.
- Determine equipment and material requirements and recommend and purchase supplies and materials as authorized.
- Ensure work complies with regulatory requirements and sign applicable declarations.
Other duties which are within the qualifications of the job description may also be assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work will be both indoors and outdoors and may require emergency callouts which occur after hours. Travel to all School District facilities required, transportation may be provided to job site from the base site (Works Complex). Appropriate clothing for all weather conditions and work situations must be supplied and worn by the Tradesperson. Appropriate hand tools must be supplied by the Tradesperson. Appropriate personal safety equipment is supplied and worn by the Tradesperson. May be required to report directly to worksite.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Industry Training Authority (ITA) Certificate of Trade Qualification (TQ) to include Certificate of Apprenticeship, and possession of Field Safety Representative (FSR) certification (Class B or equivalent) according to the BC Safety Authority.
- Four years working experience as a tradesperson in maintenance within the trades related to servicing and installation of electrical and electronic equipment, alarm systems and control systems.
- Hold and maintain a valid B.C. Driver's License.
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable WorkSafe BC regulations.
- Working knowledge of other related maintenance trades connected to physical plant servicing.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated ability to take direction and to perform all aspects of the electrical and controls trades competently and independently.
- Demonstrated ability to be physically able to perform work while working alone or as part of a team with other tradespersons.
- Ensure work in conducted relevant to the current Electrical Code specifications.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Ability to utilize computer systems effectively and efficiently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
