Engineered Air is seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill the role of Intermediate System Administrator, reporting to the Information Systems Manager. This position is 100% office-based (7:30 am 5:00 pm; Monday -Thursday, 7:30 am-2:30 pm; Friday, with 1 hour lunch every day), working out of the company's head office facility in Calgary. The contract is initially for 6 months, with the potential for a full-time position based on the candidate's performance and business requirements.
The System Administrator supports the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT systems across the organization. This role works closely with senior IT staff to ensure servers, networks, storage, backups, and related systems operate efficiently. The incumbent will assist in daily IT operations, participate in infrastructure projects, and learn to apply best practices in security, performance, and reliability.
Duties & Essential Job Functions
- Support setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, storage, networking, and backups.
- Assist with system monitoring, patching, and routine maintenance.
- Help deploy new hardware, software, and systems.
- Support network security and access control measures.
- Perform and test backups and disaster recovery processes.
- Coordinate with vendors for technical support and warranty claims.
- Document configurations, changes, and procedures.
- Complete assigned tasks for IT projects on schedule.
- Provide second-level technical support for escalated issues.
- Stay updated on technologies and pursue relevant training/certifications.
- Represent and support IT department initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or Diploma in computer science.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Good understanding of networking, Windows Server, virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V), and storage.
- Exposure to Microsoft 365 administration preferred.
- Familiarity with scripting tools like PowerShell is an asset.
- Understanding of IT security fundamentals (VPNs, firewalls, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service orientation.
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a team environment.
- Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
- Valid Driver's License and ability to own and operate a vehicle.
