Duration: One (1) Year

An exciting Temporary Casual opportunity as a Clinical Trials Coordinator exists in the Women’s College Research Institute, reporting to Dr. Simone Vigod and Dr. Noah Ivers. The primary role of the Clinical Trials Coordinator will be to provide coordination of clinical care (be a CARE COORDINATOR) for an evaluation of a virtual care treatment platform for research participants with depression and/or anxiety in pregnancy and postpartum.

Summary Of Duties, But Not Limited To The Clinical Trials Coordinator(s) will work closely with the Principal Investigators and study participants and liaise with other investigators and partners. Responsibilities are outlined below:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Identifies, analyzes and interprets participant and/or trial information and uses professional risk assessment judgment and decision-making skills to respond appropriately and proactively to clinical situations.

  • Performs clinical activities that may include clinical assessments of research participants, including administering study questionnaires, taking medical history, medication assessments, symptom monitoring, creating care plans for research participants, and providing progress reports to participants’ primary care provider, as appropriate. For participants in the intervention group, specifically:

  • Develops and implements individualized care plans,

  • Educates participants on treatment options and available resources,

  • Acts as a liaison between healthcare providers, specialists, and community resources to facilitate participants’ access to appropriate treatment,

  • Monitors participant symptoms and modifies care plans as needed,

  • Follows up with participants to ensure continuity of care, and

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams (including primary care and psychiatry).

  • Acts as an expert mental health clinical resource to trial team members and participants.

  • Updates and revises a database of mental health resources in Ontario on an ongoing basis.

  • Acts as a point of contact when research participant questions and concerns are escalated related to the clinical intervention being delivered in the study.

  • Attends monthly “Community of Practice” meetings to build clinical skills in a supportive setting and shares solutions to address barriers to intervention implementation.

Research Operational Responsibilities

  • With the Principal Investigators (PIs), plans and establishes operating procedures for various clinical and research activities within the study.
  • Develops and maintains records of research activities.
  • Establishes and maintains operating policies and procedures.
  • Completes assessment of potential serious adverse events and notifies the study physician.
  • Provides oversight of study medical records, under supervision from the PI(s).
  • Collaborates with the Investigators and other relevant partners involved in the project both internally and externally during the conduct of the research and knowledge translation.
  • Proactively identifies barriers/threats/risks for project completion and work with team members.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Member in good standing of the College of Nurses of Ontario or Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • 5 years’ experience in clinical area of women’s or perinatal mental health
  • Experience working with clinical trials specializing in perinatal mental health and delivery of virtual interventions is an asset
  • Strong understanding of research design and research ethics requirements (completion of TCPS2, ICH GCP)
  • Knowledge of the health care delivery system and community resources
  • Excellent computer skills and a minimum of 2 years experience with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Primary Care system or equivalent experience required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a multi-site team
  • Experience with use of technology for the delivery of clinical care
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure with strong judgment and decision-making skills
  • Well-developed time management with excellent attention to detail
  • Highly resourceful and adaptable with superior problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to PHIPA
  • Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
  • This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
