SCOPE:
The Surrey Nature Centre is looking to add a fulltime program specialist to our team. Working within the Parks Division, the Surrey Nature Centre offers nature-related programs for schools and the public with the goal of increasing awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of Surrey's urban forest.
The successful candidate will have experience working with school-aged children, strong leadership abilities, a sound knowledge of place-based learning and knowledge of local flora and fauna.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the Surrey Nature Centre Program Specialist you will:
- oversee the delivery of school programs and day camps
- assist with recruiting, training, supervising, and scheduling staff
- communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats
- develop new programming by applying your knowledge of environmental education, the BC curriculum, and place-based learning
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with program participants, staff, the public, and other stakeholders
- Ensure the City's Policies and Procedures are followed to maintain a high level of safety
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in recreation, or a related field from a recognized post secondary institution plus 2 years progressively responsible experience in community service work or area of specialty, including supervision, or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES
- Occupational First Aid Level One Certificate or acceptable equivalent.
- Consent to Disclosure of Criminal Record Information.
- High Five Certification or an acceptable equivalent; or willingness to obtain.
