I. JOB PURPOSE

The Content Creator and Digital Marketer leads the production, distribution, and strategic growth of all digital media for the Schulich Startups office and its portfolio of specialized programs. The position is responsible for the overall management of a high-impact digital presence, with a primary emphasis on high-engagement platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. This role involves end-to-end digital content production—from short-form video and live webcasts to podcast development and graphic design—while managing program websites and ensuring the professional digital representation of corporate sponsors. This role is responsible for translating nuanced programs, partnerships, and outcomes into clear, compelling written and visual narratives that engage students, alumni, founders, investors, and sponsors across platforms. 

Crucially, this role requires a flexible schedule to provide lead digital coverage for Schulich Startups events, many of which occur during evenings and weekends. The individual works closely with the Associate Director to build a modern, digital-first brand that celebrates startup successes and engages the global student, alumni, and investor communities.

II. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 1. Multi-Channel Digital & Social Strategy (40%)

  • Digital Media Leadership:

    Oversee and grow the central Schulich Startups accounts and dedicated program channels (e.g., Together Mission, Venture Academy), leading with Instagram and TikTok trends to drive engagement. Engage with partner accounts to increase visibility and captivate different stakeholders.

  • Multimedia Production:

    Lead the creative development and editing of high-energy short-form video content (Reels/TikToks), digital photography, and platform-specific graphics.

  • Podcasting & Webcasts:

    Manage the end-to-end production of Schulich Startups podcasts and live webcasts, including technical setup, recording, digital editing, and platform distribution.

  • Written Content Strategy:

    Craft high-quality written copy for social posts, captions, blog content, program announcements, and campaign messaging, ensuring clarity, consistency, and audience relevance across platforms.

  • Editorial Voice & Tone:

    Maintain and evolve a consistent written and spoken voice aligned with Schulich Startups and related program standards.

  • Website Management:

    Regularly update and optimize the central Schulich Startups website and program sites with digital news, media galleries, and dynamic event listings.

  • Digital Growth & Analytics:

    Implement data-driven strategies to increase digital reach; track and report on performance metrics across all social and web channels using modern AI-driven analytics tools.

2. Digital Design & Multi-Program Asset Development (20%)

  • Digital-First Design:

    Produce professional digital marketing assets, including social media kits, digital banners, and interactive presentation decks; provide secondary support for physical collateral such as pull-up banners and event signage.

  • Digital Impact Reporting:

    Lead the design and layout of annual impact reports, prioritizing digital-friendly formats to showcase office and program successes.

  • Sponsor & Brand Integration:

    Ensure the accurate and professional inclusion of sponsor logos across all digital channels and assets, complying with partner brand guidelines.

  • Brand Evolution:

    Maintain and evolve digital visual identity standards across multiple sub-brands, ensuring alignment with the Schulich School of Business and York University.

  • Narrative & Copy Development:

    Write and edit compelling written content for impact reports, sponsor materials, decks, and digital publications, translating outcomes and data into accessible narratives.

3. Digital Event Coverage & Recruitment (35%)

  • Live Digital Event Coverage:

    Lead and manage the end-to-end digital coverage of events, necessitating regular attendance at evening and weekend programming. Responsible for real-time social media storytelling and live-streaming/webcasting portions of events.

  • On-Camera Presence:

    Act as a "face of the brand" during live events and digital broadcasts, conducting on-camera interviews, hosting webcasts, or presenting in social media content to drive community connection.

  • Event Video Summaries:

    Produce high-quality video summaries and "sizzle reels" following key events for public promotion and sponsor reporting; ensure highlight reels effectively showcase program impact.

  • Email & Campaign Copywriting:

    Write and optimize recruitment emails, newsletters, and campaign messaging to drive registrations and engagement.

  • Digital Recruitment Campaigns:

    Develop and execute targeted digital marketing and ad campaigns to drive high attendance for workshops, pitch competitions, and networking events.

  • Volunteer Management:

    Recruit, train, and supervise student volunteers during live event coverage and promotional activations, ensuring professional digital output during off-hour sessions.

  • Ecosystem Communications:

    Manage digital outreach via segmented email marketing (newsletters) highlighting program sponsors and key partners.

4. Administrative Support (5%)

  • General Administration:

    Perform administrative and office support tasks as needed to assist the Associate Director and ensure smooth digital and operational workflows.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

University degree in Digital Media, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in digital content creation and social media marketing. Experience within a startup, incubator, or fast-paced creative agency is a strong asset. Proven experience in live event coverage or production that requires schedule flexibility is highly valued. Proven track record of leading digital-first campaigns and managing multimedia projects (video summaries, podcasts, or webcasting) is required.

Skills Required:

  • Digital Strategy & Storytelling:

    Expert knowledge of Instagram and TikTok algorithms, content hooks, and digital community growth.

  • Multimedia Hosting & Production:

    Comfortable and effective working both in front of and behind the camera; ability to direct others while also possessing the charisma to host and present content during live events.

  • AI Marketing Innovation:

    Strong understanding of and ability to stay up-to-date with AI marketing tools for content generation, workflow automation, and data analysis.

  • Multimedia Production:

    Mastery of mobile-first video editing (CapCut) and proficiency with digital broadcasting hardware/software (e.g., Riverside, StreamYard).

  • Exceptional Written Communication:

    Demonstrated ability to write clear, engaging, and strategic copy across formats including social media, email marketing, web content, event recaps, impact reports, and sponsor communications. Strong editing skills and attention to detail required.

  • Web & Project Management:

    Proficiency in updating and maintaining WordPress sites and utilizing project management tools (Asana) to track multi-stage content production.

  • Flexibility & Adaptability:

    Must demonstrate the ability to manage a schedule that accommodates regular evening and weekend commitments for event coverage.

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Employment Type:

    Full-Time

  • Work Model:

    4 days in-office with an option for 1 remote day.

  • Schedule Note:

    Significant evening and weekend work is required to support live digital event coverage, webcasts, and programming. Candidates must be available to attend events outside of core business hours as part of their regular duties.

  • Compensation:

    $70,000/year plus benefits.
