The Opportunity The Area Business Director (ABD) will be based in the eastern part of the US andwill serve as a front-line leader responsible for building, leading, and inspiring a high-performing sales team in their assigned geography. This individual will be accountable for the successful execution of field commercial strategies and delivering sales results to Avidity’s infused therapy for rare neuromuscular disease.
The ABD will partner cross-functionally with Patient Services, Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Commercial Operations to ensure seamless execution of the patient journey from diagnosis through treatment initiation. This is a unique opportunity to establish and shape Avidity’s first-in-class commercial field footprint.
What You Will Contribute Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, coach, and retain top sales talent across the assigned geography.
- Establish clear performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and develop team capabilities.
- Foster a culture of compliance, integrity, and collaboration aligned with Avidity’s core values.
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Translate national brand strategy into local execution plans to maximize patient access and adoption.
- Ensure sales representatives understand and partner with cross functional team to execute on pull-through strategies across infusion settings (hospital outpatient, infusion centers, physician offices, and home infusion).
- Monitor sales performance metrics, market dynamics, and competitive trends to adjust tactics as needed.
- Own area business planning and resource allocation to maximize impact within budget.
- Forecast and manage area performance against revenue and patient start goals.
- Implement and utilize data-driven field insights tools to optimize territory coverage and call planning.
- Continuously assess rare disease marketplace trends and propose strategies to maintain competitive advantage.
- Drive best practice sharing across geographies to accelerate team learning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Patient Services, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Site of Care partners to coordinate efforts and eliminate barriers to treatment.
- Ensure seamless coordination with internal stakeholders to address customer needs and enhance the overall patient experience.
- Provide field insights to inform marketing strategies, access initiatives, and operational planning.
Compliance & Business Integrity
- Ensure all team activities comply with corporate policies, industry and compliance guidelines, and applicable laws/regulations.
- Model and reinforce ethical decision-making in all aspects of field execution.
What We Seek
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech sales required.
- 5+ years of successful leadership experience in specialty/rare disease markets required.
- Demonstrated success launching infused or buy-and-bill therapies strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of rare disease market dynamics, patient access challenges, and multi-stakeholder engagement.
- Proven track record of building, motivating, and leading high-performing sales teams.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to build alignment, foster collaboration, and drive shared ownership across functions to achieve results in a complex, matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated curiosity and openness to integrating AI-powered tools to enhance functional processes, support data-informed decisions, and drive innovative outcomes across teams.
- Ability to travel up to 75% including occasional weekend commitments.
What We Will Provide To You
- The base salary range for this role is $275k - $310k. The final compensation will be commensurate with such factors as relevant experience, skillset, internal equity and market factors.
- Avidity offers competitive compensation and benefits, which include the opportunity for quarterly bonuses per the incentive compensation plan, spot bonuses, stock options, and RSUs, as well as a 401(k) with an employer match. In addition, the comprehensive wellness program includes coverage for medical, dental, vision, and LTD, and four weeks of time off.
