Compensation:(Grid 1) $22.51 - $24.08
Job Summary:
Working as part of the kitchen team, the Kitchen Helper at Phoenix Society is responsible for food preparation. Key responsibilities include: preparing meal ingredients; maintaining a clean kitchen area; cleaning dishes and cooking instruments; and loading items for transport to the Society’s various locations in a safe, timely manner.
Responsibilities:
Food Services
- Prepare meal ingredients for cooks, including washing, peeling, cutting and slicing ingredients
- Assist kitchen staff to unload food supplies from delivery trucks
- Store ingredients and food items according to food safety standards
- Remove expired or spoiled ingredients from the refrigerator, freezer and stockroom
- Clean and store all dishes, utensils and cooking instruments
- Pack take-out orders as needed
- Load, items for transport to the Society’s various housing locations in a safe, timely manner
- Sanitize food service equipment (e.g., Cambro carts) when they are returned from meal service delivery
- Remove garbage/compost, replace garbage/compost bags and wash garbage/compost bins
- Mop and sweep kitchen areas as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1 to 3 years of experience in food preparation, cleaning, or equivalent
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
- Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screen form is required
- Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
- First Aid certification with CPR is required
- Food Safe Level 1 is required

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to follow all food health and safety regulations
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items for extended periods
- Demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission is essential
