About the role

This opportunity is for a permanent position working 75 hours biweekly

The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board (WSCB) administers workplace health and safety and workers’ compensation in the territory. WSCB’s mission is to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses in partnership with employers and workers and to support workers when injuries occur. We take care of injured workers by facilitating their stay at work, return to work and recovery.

The Role:
Reporting to the President, the Director, Legal Services is responsible for protecting and advancing the legal interests of the WSCB. This position is accountable for corporate interests by providing legal expertise, strategic advice and operational leadership.

Essential Qualifications:
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet each of the following qualifications. Please note, selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Post-secondary degree in law;

  • Experience drafting policy and legislation/regulations;

  • Experience in a supervisory role including experience mentoring, leading and developing the performance of direct reports;

  • Significant experience practicing administrative, corporate and labour relations law, collections, civil litigation and regulatory law;

  • Experience interpreting and applying the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act and the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act would be an asset;

  • Legal experience, in a board environment such as a Workers’ Safety and Compensation setting would be an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Member in good standing with the Yukon Law Society
  • Have and maintain RCMP Security Clearance
