Job Summary
Athletics and Recreation takes a holistic approach to enhancing the Dalhousie experience by creating and sharing ways to engage and connect students through physical activity and wellness, and to contribute to student success. Reporting to the Manager, Facility Operations and Services, the Assistant Supervisor, Facilities Services will contribute to high quality customer service and safety for Athletics & Recreation Services clients.
Key Responsibilities

Working with the Manager, Facility Operations and Services, be part of the hiring, training, mentoring and performance evaluation team for all facility services casual staff, and lead casual staff in the completion of assigned responsibilities to ensure all daily and special event related tasks are carried out to a high standard.

Assist with and oversee student staff in the setup, running and tear down of various events held in the athletic facilities. Provide technical and staff support during the events.

Monitor the athletic facilities to ensure appropriate and safe use of all activity areas and equipment and general security of the facilities, and carry out prescribed daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and safety audits of exercise, sport and related facility equipment and infrastructure.

Lead the set up, operation and trouble shooting for timing systems, scoreboards, sound systems and other electronics as required.

Assist with all aspects of aquatic centre maintenance and water chemistry, including the receiving, handling and disbursement of pool chemicals.

Ensure all facility reservation requests are booked promptly and in a timely manner so there are no delays in returning the information to the requestor. Provide detailed information to all clients on the use of the reserved facilities.
Note
This position requires the handling of pool chemicals on a regular basis.
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
There are two positions, the shifts are as follows:
Position 1: 3:00pm-11:00pm Tue-Fri and Sat 2:00pm-10:00pm
Position 2: 10:00am-6:00pm Thu, 5:30am-1:30pm Fri, 6:30am-2:30pm Sat, 3:00pm-11:00pm Sun & Mon
Required Qualifications
-
High School diploma plus one to three years’ experience in sports facility maintenance (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

Experience in the set up and use of sports equipment.
-
Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills as well as experience effectively supervising a team and the ability to lead and teach skills to student staff.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel and Word.

Have or acquire within six months of starting the position: Certified Pool Operators certification, and First Aid and CPR certifications.

Meet above average physical demands including extensive walking, moving, set up and inspection of equipment, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Assets

Diploma or undergraduate degree in recreation management.

A background in the use, trouble shooting, and repairs of sound systems, scoreboards and cardio equipment.
