Status : Temporary, Full-time (Union position)

Schedule: 35 hours/week (Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)

Wage: $25.95 - $29.76/hour (starting $25.95)

Grid: 10

Start Date: ASAP

End Date : May 21, 2026 or return of incumbent

The Opportunity: The Accounting Assistant supports the Finance team by processing full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. This role requires multi-tasking, meeting tight deadlines, and collaborating with other members of the finance team and with staff from other departments.

The Key Areas of Responsibility are:

  • Performs full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including subledger reconciliations;
  • Disburses, replenishes, and reconciles Translink bus tickets;
  • Performs collection on delinquent accounts;
  • Processes and files routine journal entries;
  • Prepares reports such as statistical summaries and transaction tracking and any other reports requested by the manager;
  • Assists in the completion of the of month end, budget, audit and various annual reviews and all related tasks;
  • Provides input and feedback to support the continuous improvement of financial process, systems, and internal controls;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Completion of Level 2 of a diploma in financial or accounting program;
  • Minimum 3 years of proven, progressive accounting experience;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word;
  • Knowledge and experience with Sage Accpac ERP software;
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to maintain confidential information;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Basic working knowledge of GAAP;
  • Ability to exercise good accounting judgment and take appropriate action where necessary;
  • Verbal and written English proficiency at a professional level.
