Postdoctoral Fellow in Statistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Statistics. The fellow will work under the joint supervision of Dr. Mostafa Nasri and Dr. Zeinab Mashreghi on a project focused on developing new model-assisted estimators for survey data in high-dimensional settings. The position emphasizes both theoretical and applied research: deriving estimators based on Bregman-divergence loss functions and regularization techniques, establishing their theoretical properties, conducting simulation studies, and implementing the methods in an R package.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new statistical methodology for survey data in high-dimensional settings
  • Conduct theoretical analysis and establish theoretical properties
  • Perform simulation studies and empirical evaluations
  • Lead or contribute to the development of an R package
  • Lead or co-author manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Collaborate with project investigators and contribute to research dissemination

Qualifications

  • PhD in Statistics (completed by the start date)
  • Strong background in statistical theory and methodology; a solid mathematical foundation is an asset
  • Experience or strong interest in survey methodology is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in R programming; experience in R package development is an asset
  • Familiarity with optimization methods, high-dimensional data analysis, or regularization techniques is advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
