About the role
Join our Financial Reporting team as a Senior Accountant, in our Home Office in Calgary, AB!
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Accountant who can effectively navigate complex accounting matters and deliver high-quality, detail-oriented work. This role supports the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes for the consolidated entity and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
What You'll Do
- Perform month-end and period-end close procedures, including preparation and review of complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, investigating variances between the general ledger, subledgers, and operational systems to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting schedules and supporting documentation in accordance with accounting standards and internal policies.
- Research and make recommendations relating to technical accounting matters.
- Consolidate subsidiary balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting leadsheets across entities to support accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting by improving accounting procedures, documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and act as a liaison with external auditors during audit engagements.
- Drive initiatives to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and month-end close processes.
- Improve workflows, leveraging PowerBi, OneStream, and other automation tools.
- Assist with financial analysis and ad hoc projects as required.
- Mentor junior team members, providing ongoing guidance and support.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and organizational goals.
What You Bring
- CPA designation with and 2+ years in a senior-level accounting role
- Experience in a public accounting firm is considered an asset
- Experience with ERP systems (Netsuite preferred) and advanced excel skills
- Experience with EPM tools (OneStream or Hyperion)
- Solid understanding of ASPE, financial regulations and internal controls
- Experience in the retail and / or health sector considered an asset
- High attention to detail, organized and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Self-motivated with exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Ability to quickly step into the role, work independently with minimal supervision, and confidently manage complex accounting tasks
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- A collaborative, adaptable, and proactive team player with a growth mindset, able to manage changing priorities effectively
- Bilingualism English/French is considered an asset
