About the role
Under the supervision of a Vehicle Systems Supervisor, the Truck and Transport Mechanic will be diagnosing, overhauling and repairing all aspects of Winnipeg Transit bus fleet vehicles, support vehicles and equipment.
As the Truck and Transport Mechanicyou will:
- Diagnose and repair the following: Winnipeg Transit bus fleet, diesel and/or other internal combustion engines, transmissions and/or hydraulic equipment, and all related electrical and auxiliary equipment
- Develop a working knowledge of the technical and administrative procedures necessary to perform the duties of a Journeyman Truck and Transport Mechanic.
- Train and direct Truck and Transport Mechanic Apprentices.
Your education and qualifications include:

High School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a Truck and Transport Journeyman Red Seal Certificate.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

Ability to use sound judgement in making decisions.

Acceptable safety and job performance relevant to this position.

Effective interpersonal skills.

Adherence to the City of Winnipeg Respectful Workplace Standards.
Conditions of employment:
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and be able to obtain a Manitoba Class 2 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement, within six months of employment (in house training).
- Must be physically capable of performing the routine manual labour components of the position, which may include but are not limited to: heavy lifting (up to 100lbs), maneuvering within or around large equipment, exposure to dust, noise, extreme weather conditions, diesel exhaust fumes and chemical agents used in the mechanical field.
- Successful candidate must have a complete set of Mechanic's hand toold on their first day of employment.
- Must successfully complete required training in the use of specialized equipment, such as scissors lifts, forklifts, etc. within a specified time frame.
