Full-Time Hospice Lead RN/LPN
About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Hospice Lead Nurse to oversee and support the delivery of exceptional end-of-life care within our two bed hospice program. This role combines leadership responsibilities with hands on nursing practice, ensuring residents and families receive high-quality, person-centered support during their hospice journey.
The Hospice Lead Nurse will work closely with residents, families, interdisciplinary team members, and site leadership to coordinate care, manage admissions, and uphold best practices in hospice and palliative care. This position also includes providing education and guidance to staff, as well as participating in regular floor nursing duties within the continuing care environment.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and coordinate all plans of care within the hospice program
- Provide compassionate, holistic end-of-life care to residents and their families
- Manage hospice admissions, assessments, and ongoing care delivery
- Administer medications and perform clinical interventions in accordance with hospice and continuing care standards
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and care staff; provide education related to hospice and palliative care
- Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and families to ensure seamless communication and care coordination
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in regular floor nursing duties within the continuing care unit as required
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support hospice needs outside of regular hours
Qualifications and Education

Active nursing registration in Alberta (LPN or RN, depending on site requirements)

Experience in hospice, palliative care, or continuing care preferred

Strong clinical assessment, organization, and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to support residents and families through end-of-life transitions

Proven ability to lead, educate, and collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams

Compassionate, resident- and family-centered approach to care
Bona Fide Occupational Requirements

Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position

Ability to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds

Ability to work on one’s feet for the duration of a shift, including frequent bending, stretching, walking, lifting, and moving
