Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency providing a wide range of exceptional programs and services that improve the mental, social and physical health of infants, children and youth from the pre-natal stage to age 29, and their families**. With a** range of community, live-in and treatment services, we build strength and resilience through equitable, accessible, client-driven services, system leadership and advocacy. We provide individual, group and family interventions that include mental health counselling, autism services, education, outreach and referral, early intervention, day treatment and community support. In its Lead Agency role, Strides Toronto collaborates with 24 publicly funded infant, child and youth mental health (ICYMH) core service providers to design and implement system-level improvements that promote access, responsive service delivery and experience, and positive mental health outcomes for young people and families across Toronto's diverse communities. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Individual and Family Support Worker (IFSW) provides a range of evidence based therapeutic interventions relating to behaviour management, family stabilization, parent-child conflict resolution, service coordination, and case management in the context of flexible service delivery to reduce barriers to service and accommodate client needs.

The IFSW engages in assessment of needs, behavioural coaching (parent/client) and supportive counseling to support mental health and functioning where psychotherapy is not deemed appropriate or client is not ready to engage in intensive therapy.

Salary range: $58,001 to $67,543 per annum

This position is represented by OPSEU local 567.

This is a full-time contract position until March 31, 2026.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide direct supportive coaching/ counselling to parents and clients presenting with mental health concerns through therapeutic groups, individual and family sessions and parent coaching in accordance with organizational standards to support improved behaviour and family stabilization.
  • Support clients in accessing appropriate services internally and externally to support their treatment needs.
  • Enter clinical information into organization’s client information system and maintain appropriate, up to date clinical reports and recordings in accordance with organizational policy, procedures, and guidelines, and consistent with recording guidelines from accreditation bodies.
  • Incorporate and integrate ongoing learning, and evidence-based/ informed practices to enhance quality clinical work.
  • Conduct themself in a safe manner and adhere to the established health and safety measures and practices in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.

THE “MUST HAVES”

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:

  • 3 years Community College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care/ Practitioner, Mental Health, Social Service Worker or related field.
  • 2 years of child and youth mental health experience including provision of supportive counselling, parent coaching, behaviour management and consultation/ liaising with other professionals.
  • Registration in good standing with a relevant association (where applicable).
  • Experience working with youth/ families with Child Welfare involvement.
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
    • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
    • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.

Formed in January 2020 through the amalgamation of Aisling Discoveries and East Metro Youth Services, Strides Toronto provides a range of community, residential and treatment services to improve the mental, social and physical health of infants, children, youth and their families. We provide individual, group and family interventions that include mental health counselling, autism services, education, outreach and referral, early intervention, day treatment and community support. As Lead Agency for infant, child and youth mental health in Toronto, Strides Toronto works with core service providers to design and implement system-level improvements that transform access to services, experience of services and the mental health outcomes for Toronto's diverse communities. Strides Toronto has a budget of $30 million and more than 350 employees providing services out of 19 locations across East Toronto. The organization is accredited by the Centre for Accreditation and the predecessor organizations have a long history of providing high-quality services in East Toronto.
