About the Role:
Hillel Western is looking for a Director who will shape the future of Jewish life at Western University — Canada's second-largest Jewish campus. You'll build deep relationships with students, lead a team, and create programming that meets students where they are. If you're an entrepreneurial leader who thrives on community building, advocacy, and experiential Jewish education, this role was made for you.
This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Campus Life, and has an immediate start date.
What You'll Do:
Engagement & Community Building
- Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, study, and socialize — using creative outreach to engage uninvolved populations
- Plan, support, and evaluate student-initiated programming across religious, cultural, political, and social interests (including evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays)
- Serve as an experiential Jewish educator, adding accessible Jewish content and depth to campus life
Leadership & Team Development
- Model positive leadership; recruit, mentor, and empower student leaders and interns
- Supervise staff with an emphasis on professional growth, ensuring participation in conferences and ongoing Jewish learning
Advocacy & Campus Relations
- Develop proactive advocacy strategies in partnership with the Director of Advocacy; monitor antisemitic and anti-Israel activity on campus and social media
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Western's university administration
Operations & Administration
- Manage Hillel Western's facility, programming budget, and CRM/email systems
- Support fundraising efforts, apply for grants, and provide content for stakeholder communications
- Serve as campus liaison for external partners including Birthright Israel and Masa
What You'll Bring:
-
Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant professional experience (fundraising experience is an asset)
-
Strong Jewish background with a deep commitment to Israel and nuanced understanding of engagement, education, and advocacy strategies
-
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines
-
Excellent verbal and written communication — you connect with university students naturally
-
Entrepreneurial mindset: flexible, adaptable, and energized by building something meaningful
What You'll Get:
- Competitive nonprofit salary ($65K–$80K) with comprehensive medical, health, LTD, and life insurance benefits
- Generous paid vacation, sick days, and mental health days
- Professional development, coaching, mentoring, and skill-building opportunities
- Flexible work hours and a fun, fast-paced team environment
- Unlimited paid coffee dates with students (yes, really)
