The Vice-Principal of Risk Management and Student Citizenship provides leadership in the areas of student conduct, discipline, pastoral care, and risk management. Working closely with the Head of School and senior leadership team, this role supports the development of positive school culture, strong citizenship, and safe, inclusive learning environments. The Vice-Principal ensures that student well-being and campus safety are approached proactively, consistently, and in alignment with best practices and school values. This is a member of the leadership team, and will have the highest level of authority for discipline and conduct beneath the Head of School.

Key Responsibilities

Student Conduct, Discipline, and Pastoral Care

  • Provide leadership and oversight of student conduct and discipline processes, ensuring they are fair, restorative, and aligned with school philosophy and policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the leadership team, teachers, and support staff to promote positive behaviour, character development, and good citizenship among students.
  • Support pastoral care structures that foster student well-being, belonging, and emotional safety.
  • Partner with families to address student conduct concerns and support student growth and accountability.
  • Monitor trends in student behaviour and well-being, recommending proactive strategies and interventions as needed.

Risk Management and Campus Safety

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of campus safety and risk management across the school.
  • Ensure effective planning, implementation, and review of emergency preparedness procedures, including drills, lockdowns, fire safety, and other crisis response protocols.
  • Oversee arrival, dismissal, and supervision procedures to ensure student safety and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee, prepare and approve Risk Management forms for field trips and excursions
  • Establish systems of communication and coverage
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in safety planning, including child safeguarding, accessibility planning, and inclusive support for students with diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with facilities, transportation, and administrative teams to identify and mitigate risks across campus operations.
  • Maintain up-to-date safety documentation, training, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee Erase Training, First Aid Training, and other formalized training for all staff

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Serve as a key member of the school's leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Model professionalism, care, and strong leadership in interactions with students, staff, and families.
  • Support a culture of shared responsibility for student well-being and safety across the school community.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
  • Significant experience in school leadership, student services, or administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in student discipline, pastoral care, and school safety practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices, student well-being, and positive school culture.
