What is the opportunity?
The Group Risk Management Real Estate Development team provides independent assessment of business and financial risks for individual borrowers as a 2nd Line of Defence in the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Governance.
The Associate Director will be involved in supporting many functions such as effective monitoring and control on all material credit risks across RBC's Real Estate Lending Portfolio, and assessment of risks at a transactional level for each individual credit. You will provide coaching to business partners, focus on maintaining the risk profile, alignment with the business, operational effectiveness and efficiency in management of assigned portfolios, and enhancing the client experience.
What will you do?
- Adjudicate Real Estate credit applications within your delegated lending limits influencing portfolio quality through strategic assessment of risk, attention to data quality and knowledge-sharing.
- Ensure clients and colleagues are treated with respect, a highly professional empathetic approach is used, and good working relationships are maintained.
- Leads and applies consistent and effective performance management practices with risk managers on the team.
- Partner with the right people to achieve collective results. Act as a catalyst to ensure team is strategically aligned with business strategies while maintaining the Bank's desired risk profile.
- Coaches business partners to develop strategies and leverage RBC resources to minimize overall costs.
- Ensure accurate and consistent processes/controls are in place and being followed to protect shareholder interests. Ensures credit transactions are adjudicated, for the most part, within Policy Guidelines, Standards, and Procedures.
- Take initiative to proactively seek, demonstrate, and facilitate consistency in credit adjudication fully utilizing other resources including other risk teams.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Previous credit skills with a high degree of proficiency, preferably GRM experience, but a minimum 5 years commercial banking and real estate lending experience.
- Undergrad degree in business or risk related field Masters in Finance or Risk, MBA and in pursuit of CFA/FRM designation preferred.
- Strong risk assessment and analysis skills
- Business and Financial Insight
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
Nice-to-have
- Industry Knowledge (real estate)
- In-depth knowledge of RBC Risk Policies, procedures and practices, Folios, etc.
- Proficiency with Bank technology
