About the role

Your Opportunity:

Pharmacy Technicians in Correctional Health work in a secure environment, collaborating with healthcare teams, correctional staff, and external partners to care for adults and youth in custody. They handle all aspects of drug distribution, including barcoding, preparing, and repackaging patient-specific and ward stock medications, as well as methadone. Additional duties include maintaining controlled substance records, managing inventory, performing final checks, supporting purchasing, training staff and students, assisting with medication reconciliation, and working with the healthcare team to resolve medication-related issues.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must maintain security clearance, demonstrate strong computer skills, and follow oral and written instructions with sound judgment. Requires the ability to stand, walk, perform repetitive tasks, and lift up to 30 lbs. regularly (up to 50 lbs. occasionally), with the manual dexterity and visual acuity needed to prepare medications safely and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 2 years’ experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or institutional setting. Recent experience with corrections pharmacy workflows, including procedures, purchasing, after-hours processes, inventory management, and related documentation. Proficient with EPIC Willow. Active membership in a pharmacy professional organization (e.g., PTSA, CAPT).
