About the role

UCN acknowledges that we are on the traditional

INDUSTRIAL MECHANIC/MILLWRIGHT INSTRUCTOR

DUTIES
Reporting to the Dean of Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship & Technology the Industrial Mechanic/Millwright Instructor is responsible for the

development and delivery of industry-endorsed culturally relevant curriculum. In addition to teaching duties, the instructor will be responsible

for classroom management, student supervision and advising, maintenance of student records and grades, curriculum review/development,

student recruitment, as well as various program logistics and administrative functions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Red Seal Certification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)

  • Red Seal Certified Heavy Duty Technicians will be considered providing they have extensive experience in the following areas:

diesel engine technology, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, pumps and compressors

  • Significant experience in the Industrial Mechanic/Millwright industry after completion of Red Seal designation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership skills with a commitment to teamwork
  • Demonstrated attention to maintenance of safe workplaces
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a range of adult learners with issues specific to Indigenous learners and mature students in
  • northern communities
  • Commitment to life-long learning

ASSETS
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language

  • Previous instructional experience teaching adult learners (formally or informally)

  • Previous experience using online platforms (Ex. Moodle, D2L, UCNLearn)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada

  • Completion of Teaching for Learning (TFL) post-graduate certificate or equivalent Certificate in Adult Education
