About the Project
The Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project is one of Canada's most significant infrastructure initiatives, replacing the existing Alexandra Bridge that has connected Ottawa, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec for more than 120 years. As a vital interprovincial transportation corridor within the National Capital Region, the bridge serves thousands of pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and transit users while forming an integral part of Confederation Boulevard. Having reached the end of its service life, the existing bridge will be replaced with a modern, resilient crossing designed to meet the region's long-term transportation needs. The Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project represents a major investment in Canada's transportation infrastructure, supporting economic growth, regional connectivity, and community development while creating opportunities for skilled professionals to contribute to a landmark project that will serve Canadians for generations.
About the job
The IT Manager will report directly to the AFC Manager and will be responsible for establishing, managing, and supporting all IT operations for the project. As this is a greenfield environment, the successful candidate will play a key role in building IT processes, procedures, and infrastructure from the ground up while serving as the primary IT resource for the project team. This position will oversee employee onboarding and offboarding, device provisioning, IT procurement, user access management, and day-to-day technical support, while ensuring the organization's IT systems remain secure, reliable, and efficient.
What you'll be doing
Establish and maintain IT policies, procedures, and best practices for the project. Set up and configure laptops, mobile devices, access fobs, and other IT equipment for new employees. Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, including provisioning and deprovisioning user accounts and system access. Administer Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Active Directory, Intune, and other enterprise platforms. Manage service desk requests and ensure timely resolution of technical issues. Support IT infrastructure, including servers, networking, firewalls, wireless connectivity, backups, and hybrid cloud environments. Coordinate IT procurement, vendor relationships, software licensing, and hardware inventory. Maintain cybersecurity standards, including MFA, endpoint management, patching, and access controls. Support project offices with day-to-day IT operations and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues. Coordinate with corporate IT teams and external vendors to ensure successful implementation of IT initiatives. Assist with IT budgeting, asset management, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve IT processes, automate tasks, and enhance the overall user experience.
What we are looking for Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Several years of progressive IT experience, including experience managing IT operations in a standalone or small-team environment. Demonstrated experience building IT processes, procedures, and support functions from the ground up. Experience independently supporting users across multiple business functions. Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure/Entra ID, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and Exchange. Experience with Windows Server, virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V), networking, VPNs, firewalls (Cisco, Fortinet or similar), backups, and endpoint management. Experience managing IT vendors, procurement, hardware lifecycle, and software licensing. Familiarity with service desk ticketing systems and ITIL best practices. Experience implementing security controls such as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), endpoint protection, and user access management. Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize competing tasks, and build scalable IT processes in a fast-paced project environment. Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset.
