Summary of responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging and under the supervision of the Charge Technologist, and indirect supervision of the registered technologist team, the imaging assistant will assist with all required imaging examinations according to prescribed standards and support patient care related tasks. He/she will assist the technologist as required, while following departmental protocols, utilize all protective safeguards, apply all safety rules and techniques and assume office and other related duties as required. He/she will document all appropriate information in the Radiology Information System and uphold all policies and procedures of the department and organization.

General Accountabilities:
The incumbent will:

  • Assist with all duties of an Imaging Technologist or Sonographer
  • Ensure that patients are properly prepared prior to examinations and have been informed about the nature of the study
  • Assist with the prioritizing of imaging requests to ensure quality patient care in an expedient manner
  • Assist in confirming patient conditions, prior to the imaging of inpatients, outpatients and emergency department patients (i.e. isolation status, blood work, NPO when required etc.)
  • Assist in positioning, transferring and lifting of patients as part of imaging procedures
  • Assist in data entry and documentation of patient/procedural information
  • Comply with department and facility policies and procedures
  • Comply with all Infection Prevention and Control practices
  • Commence emergency treatment procedures independently and immediately when required
  • Abide by all privacy related policies for maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
  • Adhere to Imaging Environment Safety Standards
  • Participate in quality initiatives related to improving the patient experience
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging

Requirements of the job

  • Minimum of six (6) months’ experience in a related role. Experience working in Diagnostic Imaging Department is preferred
  • Currently enrolled in a CMRITO accredited MRT/DMS program (s) or a Graduate of accredited MRT/DMS program (s). Internationally trained MRTs may be considered
  • Prior radiological technologist knowledge and experience in a complex, fast paced inter-professional team
  • Experience with contrast media and associated risks
  • BCLS
  • High regard for Personal Health Information and the confidentiality expectations
  • Ability to monitor vital signs
