The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The mandate of the Human Resources Department is to ensure the responsible stewardship of OSC resources, contributes to enterprise-wide workforce productivity, and leads the design and implementation of a positive employee experience.

The Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) function plays a key role in realizing the OSC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment. The Inclusion and Diversity manager oversees the ongoing development and implementation of corporate inclusion, and diversity strategies and programs.

Reporting to the Manager, Inclusion and Diversity, the Inclusion & Diversity Co-op Student will be involved in a variety of initiatives, including:

  • Conducting research (e.g., comparative research into leading and best practices of other organizations’ I&D maturity) and preparing related materials, such as presentations, reports, and other project-related communications
  • Analyzing projects and processes (analyzing data compared to industry and best practice trends)
  • Contributing to collecting and reporting of data and feedback to help support the overall I&D strategy
  • Supporting the development of meeting materials and briefings on topics within the I&D strategy. This includes supporting and developing content for written or verbal presentations as required
  • Identifying common I&D priorities with other similar organizations
  • Contributing to reporting on I&D strategy, projects, goals and developing ongoing mechanisms for communication
  • Supporting change management and project development related to I&D
  • Support the existing Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
  • Support the Manager, I&D on the development of policies, toolkits and programs aligned with achieving I&D objectives and desired outcomes resulting program implementation
  • Other duties as assigned

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • In process of completing an undergraduate or graduate degree in human resources, business, sociology, public policy, or a related field of study
  • Have a passion for Inclusion and Diversity - values diversity and applies an equity lens; consciously thinks about who needs to be included
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and best practices an asset
  • Motivated and able to work in an inclusive and collaborative team environment, as well as independently
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Project management skills
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills to meet deadlines
  • Strategic analysis

This opportunity is considered to be a business critical role supporting the Strategic Planning, Reporting & Execution department.
