Site Description: The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, founded under the name of Toronto Institute of Medical Technology, was created to respond to the educational requirements for health sciences professionals and for the continuing education of health care practitioners. A pilot program developed by hospital-based physicians and medical technologists in 1958, demonstrated the value of combining learning in an educational environment with clinical education in a teaching hospital.
Position Details:
Position: Part-Time Security Guard
Site: The Michener Institute | 222 St Patrick St, Toronto, ON M5T 1V4
Averaging Agreement : Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours
Hours: Saturday and Sunday (1900-0700 hrs)
Payrate: $18.25/hrs
Posting Date: September 16, 2025
Internal Closing Date: September 22, 2025

Key Responsibilities:
- Be able to comprehend and demonstrate competencies of The Michener Institute and the Security policies and procedures with an ability to use a customer service approach
- Be able to keep an open and objective mind, remembering the city’s diverse community.
- Assist visitors, and employee during crisis and contact the necessary emergency services as needed
- Ensure that the property is safe by ensuring all security measures are functioning properly
- Enthusiastically conducts proactive patrols (exterior and Interior), and be able to address policy breeches, and note facility concerns.
- Attend and investigate security alarms and emergencies in a timely and professional manner as not to create a panic amongst the public
- Ability to de-escalate a crisis, provide support and liaise with emergency personnel including; police, fire and paramedic resources.
- Handle Lost & Found items and inquiries
- Ability to provide first aid and medical response when required to any person
- Maintain positive and constructive relationships with The Client’s staff and external clients by providing timely and accurate support as required.
- Perform duties and tasks assigned by the Security Leadership team and respond to the directions of the client
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the city
Prerequisites:
- Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
- Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
- Covid Vaccine two doses
- Proof of up to date immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and two step Tuberculosis skin test
- Must be willing to complete N95 Mask fit testing during the training
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- English (oral/written) fluency is a must
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Applicants who do not possess these certifications can opt into Paladin's Use of Force (UOF)/Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
