Are you a hands-on maintenance professional who enjoys fixing things? The City of Owen Sound is hiring a full-time contract Maintenance Labourer to support the City’s Building and Property Maintenance division.
What You’ll Do
Assist with repairs, renovations and recommendations as identified through facility audit reports and inspections.
- Some custodial duties, including but not limited to: Cemetery, Art Gallery, Business Enterprise Centre, Tourism and restricted areas of the Police Station.
- Perform facility inspections and assist in day-to-day maintenance as required.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of building operation systems, HVAC systems, mechanical systems and basic electrical systems.
- Assist with the winterization and opening of seasonal facilities.
- Complete inspections, pre-use inspections, work-related documentation and health and safety documentation.
- Operation including but not limited to the following: pickup truck, van, one tonne truck, scissor lift/boom lift, general carpentry tools, power tools specific to assigned tasks, rented equipment as required, janitorial equipment, generators and pumps.
- Customer service skills and the ability to communicate with the public and building tenants daily.
- Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist in the Asset Management Program
- Undertake special projects and perform such other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field.
- 2 years of experience in a facilities maintenance position
Skills & Competencies:
- Elevated Platform or Boom Lift Certified
- A Demonstrated Mechanical Aptitude, including HVAC operations and maintenance
- Working from Heights and Fall Arrest Training
- Strong understanding and knowledge of facility maintenance, operations and best practices
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Building Code, Plumbing Code, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and other applicable facilities and safety-related legislation, regulations and guidelines
Other Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Criminal record check.
- Internal candidates must have a satisfactory attendance and performance record.
Compensation & Benefits
- Wage: $25.64 - $30,21 per hour
- Benefits: 50%-50% employee/employer paid benefits
- OMERS defined benefit pension plan
