About the role

Title: Childcare Site Leader

Location: Penticton

Hours: 30 - 40 hours/week

Job Summary

The Site Leader is responsible for the overall daily operations of the designated program as delegated by the Team Leader, including programming, personnel supervision, adherence to government, legislative and contractual obligations, health and safety. The Site Leader is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the program and of OneSky Community Resources Society.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education with a minimum of three years’ experience or working towards a certificate of Early Childhood Education.

  • Valid Post Basic Infant/Toddler License to Practice, as applicable.

  • Training and experience in supervision of childcare services including demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of child growth and development.

  • Knowledge of the UN Declaration of the Rights of Children, ECEBC Code of Ethics, BC Child & Family Care Act, and Community Care Facilities Licensing Regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to families, personnel, complementary professionals and community partners to support the needs of children and families.

  • Successful completion of:

  • Criminal record check

  • Immunization record

  • Personal and professional references

  • Educational transcripts

  • Valid Class 4 BC driver’s license, as applicable

  • Satisfactory driver’s abstract, as applicable

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate

  • Food Safe Certificate, as applicable

  • Early Intervention and Prevention Training

  • Signed OneSky Confidentiality Agreement

  • Adherence to OneSky policies and procedures, programs operations manual and commitment to OneSky Code of Ethics

  • Adherence to the Child Care Licensing Regulation requirements of B.C. Community Care and Assisted Living Act

  • Must be 19 years of age or older

  • Demonstrated computer literacy (Internet, Outlook, Word, Excel. Publisher & Power Point preferred), including competency in maintaining databases and creating statistical reports as required for program accountability and efficiency

  • Knowledge of child growth and development, special needs conditions and family systems

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and the ability to model, share, and educate this value with personnel, childcare providers, family and community

  • Able to work effectively with government ministries, community groups, and partner agencies

Responsibilities

  • Support OneSky’s mission, vision and values

  • Promote the optimal social, physical, emotional, cognitive and cultural growth and development of each child

  • Develop, implement and evaluate programming

  • Provide daily supervision and support of personnel including scheduling, daily time approvals, leave request approvals, in collaboration with Team Leader.

  • Perform reviews, coaching, mentoring and intervention as required to ensure excellence in services and care provided; participate in progressive discipline in collaboration with TL

  • Maintain the health and safety of participants, personnel and facility

  • Meet and maintain all program and facility security requirements

  • Create a welcoming program centre that is attractive, organized, well-lit, and stimulating for children, parents and visitors

  • Ensure the program and/or facility meets all local, regional, provincial and federal standards

  • Support and maintain accreditation standards, licensing regulations, OneSky policies and procedures, and program procedures

  • Assist the Team Leader in developing strategic plans, assessing and resolving operational issues and policies for the program

  • Assist the Team Leader in establishing and implementing standards and accountability measures for the program

  • Participate in OneSky meetings and events as required, and contribute in positive ways to the Society’s plans, activities, and image

  • Assist the Team Leader in developing and motivating personnel to attain program objectives and ensure personnel training and professional development meets program objectives

  • Mediate problem situations and design remedies that include the participation of personnel, participants and families

  • Support and maintain all applicable Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives, accreditation standards, licensing regulations, OneSky policies and procedures, and program procedures.

  • Maintain a current awareness of developments and regulations in the industry and communicate this information, as needed, to personnel, participants, families, childcare providers, community professionals and members of the public

  • Adapt the program to reflect/accommodate change in government policy and/or regulations

  • Work collaboratively with community partners to support the needs of children and families that might be outside the scope of the centre.

  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Team Leader on relevant cross-agency program and service issues

  • Look to build community capacity and to maximize program resources and enhance service delivery in the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities

  • Support and maintain continuous quality improvements in order to produce the best possible outcomes for participants

  • Commit to maintaining inclusive quality service environments which provide participants with respect, and value their choices and abilities

  • Work effectively to help build solutions and solve problems

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Support and maintain accreditation standards, licensing regulations, OneSky policies and procedures, and program procedures

  • Perform any related duties which may be assigned and/or required to maintain the operations and integrity of the program
