Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Community and Student Affairs, Pembroke Campus, the Student Success Specialist (SSS) works independently , providing day-to-day guidance and advice to students and promoting success in their studies, within the scope of the position's responsibilities . T he incumbent has a high degree of freedom to determine the best course of action for individual clients and to identify a successful plan**.**The incumbent plans, proposes, coordinates, and implements retention initiatives and events approved by the Student Success Committee and the Dean’s Management Committee.

The incumbent will draw on their knowledge of the programs and services offered at the college, college directives, protocols and procedures, past work experience, and their network of contacts in the college and greater community to prepare an action plan for clients. Knowledge and understanding of program and procedure changes within the college is essential.

The SSS is centred on customer service and promotes a caring attitude between college personnel and students. Early warning systems and othe r retention initiatives are an important part of the position. The SSS work s wit h the Dean, Chairs, faculty, program coordinators and student services staff to determine the best course of action for students.

The incumbent also a ssists with developing related communication, marketing, liaison, and promotional activities to encourage students to use support services for their success at the College . The incumbent performs an integral role within the multi-disciplinary student services team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum three (3) year degree/diploma or equivalent in Social Sciences;Equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience may be accepted in place of formal education

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience with student mentoring is required; Experience with spreadsheet software such as Excel; Experience analyzing statistical data.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

This position requires regular on-site work at Algonquin College’s Woodroffe (Ottawa) Campus
