The Customer and Business Insights Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting one of our most important partnerships—our utility services relationship with the City of Calgary This role is responsible for producing and enhancing high impact, accurate reporting, analytics, and insights related to operations that serve millions of residential and business customers.

The analyst acts as both a data translator and story-builder delivering clear, actionable insights derived from customer, operational, and technical data sources. From recurring performance reporting to strategic messaging and trend analysis, the analyst will be part of a team who ensures that the City of Calgary receives timely, accurate, and meaningful information that drives understanding, trust, and continuous improvement.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-impact, visually compelling reporting and presentations (Power BI, Powerpoint) that meet or exceed the informational needs of the City of Calgary.
  • Collaborate closely with business leaders, governance teams, and technical partners to ensure the alignment of operational data delivery and reporting standards.
  • Develop and execute on standards related to data Q/A, accuracy, validation, and publication.
  • Analyze operational data across the customer journey—from metering to billing and service delivery—and distill insights into executive-ready content and presentations.
  • Translate technical and performance data into stories that support strategic decision-making and partnership outcomes.
  • Respond to ad hoc data and insight requests from the City of Calgary, ensuring quality, relevance, and timeliness.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate reporting processes and improve data accessibility and accuracy.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines and models to extract, transform, and visualize information from a variety of sources, including SAP, Genesys, survey tools, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Utilize Power BI and other tools to create dynamic dashboards and visual narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support the leadership team in messaging key results, identifying trends, and surfacing opportunities for improvement.

Education Required

  • Degree in quantitative fields, such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics or Finance with 4+ years relevant business experience; or technical diploma with a minimum of 6+ years’ related experience.
  • Related certification in Microsoft Power BI, Azure Data Factory/Synapse Analytics, or programming (such as Python or SQL) is an asset.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or reporting roles.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • 4+ years of experience building and maintaining interactive Power BI dashboards or similar data visualization tools.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite (excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Hands-on experience with Azure data tools and platforms.
  • Strong experience in querying and modeling data from complex enterprise systems (e.g., SAP CRM, ISU, BW; Genesys; survey platforms).
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify and present complex data into compelling insights for senior leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with data architecture, ETL processes, and BI infrastructure.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data storytelling, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Understanding data security and privacy best practices in reporting environments.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
  • Passion for customer-focused service delivery and continuous process improvement.

Salary: Analyst Level C (Current CUPE 2025 rates)

$99,626.44 - $105,855.57 - $112,084.70 - $118,313.83 - $124,542.96

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid work model that includes Core Days in office (Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays), and more time to focus on Mondays and Fridays, either in the office or at home. The office workspace is located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB).
